Yardley constituency shown within Birmingham
Yardley is an area in east Birmingham, England. It is also a formal district, managed by its own district committee.
Birmingham Yardley is a constituency and its member of Parliament is Estelle Morris.
Yardley has three main primary schools. These are Yardley, Hobmoor and Lyndon Green. It also has two main secondary schools, which are Cockshut Hill and Sheldon.
Yardley's main shopping area is known as The Yew Tree. Named after the tree that stood on the roundabout at the junction in the centre of Yardley. Unfortunately, it was damaged during work to the roundabout and ended up having to be cut down. It was later replaced by another Yew Tree which is still growing.
Yardley was well known for its pub also called The Yew Tree. Unforunately, it was shut down and burned twice. It was later demolished and replaced by a Co-op supermarket and restaurants.
Yardley is not new by any stretch. It has an old Tudor hall called Blakesley Hall and an old church. The church dates back to the Tudor times as well. A sign of its age is a doorway which is surrounded by Tudor roses and a pomegranate which was to symbolize Prince Arthur and the Catherine of Aragon getting married. Prince Arthur died though before the marriage and Henry VIII married her instead.
Yardley has also been mentioned in the Domesday Book and it's earliest known reference was in an old passage written by monks calling it Gyrdleah during the time of the Romans.
Yardley's nearest train station is Stechford.
Yardley has also had a royal visit too by Princess Anne. She drove herself to Yardley and visited a charity shop called Sense which helps the blind.
