Wilhelm List

Wilhelm List (1880 - 1971), was a German Field Marshal during World War II.

During 1939 he was General Officer Commanding the German 14th Army in Poland. From 1939 to 1941 he became General Officer Commanding the German 12th Army in France and Greece. During 1941 he was Commander-in-Chief South-East. In 1942 he was the Commander-in-Chief of the German Army Group A on the Eastern Front with Russia.

List was captured by the allies after the war and was charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Hostages Trial at Nuremberg. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in February 1948. In December 1952 List was released from prison because of ill health. He died on August 17, 1971.
