The fictional Weasley family figure prominently in the plot of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series of fantasy novels, as Ron Weasley is Harry's best friend. The Weasleys have a large family of seven children, which all have red hair and freckles. Though all the actors playing Weasleys in the films have red hair, they typically lack freckles. All members of the Weasley nuclear family have been Gryffindors and five out of seven of the Weasley children are known to have served on the Quidditch team.
The Weasleys live in the Burrow near Ottery St Catchpole, and are poor enough that their children have to make-do with secondhand school supplies and clothing, particularly the younger ones. Despite this, the Weasleys are one of the most respected pureblood families, except by people such as Lucius Malfoy, who consider them blood traitors. Note it has not been explained how, if the Weasleys are blood traitors, they have managed to remain pure-blood for so long.
The Weasleys own a rather clumsy owl named Errol. He seems aged, has trouble making deliveries, and is often found unconscious.
Nuclear family
Extended family
Gideon and Fabian Prewett
Molly Weasley's maiden name was Prewett and Gideon and Fabian Prewett were her brothers.
Both Gideon and Fabian were members of the Order of the Phoenix, but, according to Moody they both died as heroes. Both are in a picture of the original Order members that Moody shows to Harry. They were brutally killed by Death Eater Antonin Dolohov.
What happened to the Prewett brothers seems to have affected Molly, causing her to be overprotective of her children. Since the children of Arthur and Molly are pure-blood, the Prewetts must be a pure-blood family as well.
Mafalda
Mafalda, the daughter of Molly's Muggle cousin, was originally conceived to be in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but didn't make the final cut. According to Rowling, Mafalda would have been "a nosy, eavesdropping Slytherin who likes to impress."
Relatives mentioned in passing
- Grandfather - once owned the chess set Ron currently owns
- Uncle Bilius - according to Ron, Bilius saw the Grim and died within twenty-four hours
