The Viennese basin is a tectonic basin between the Alps and the Carpathian Mountains. The fairly level area has the shape of a spindel , over an area of 50 kilometres by 200 kilometres. 80% of the Viennese basin is located in Lower Austria, although small areas are also located in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
