Prior to its creation in 1974, the Victoria County district traditionally returned one Liberal member from the Grand Falls-area and one Conservative member from the area that became Victoria-Tobique. From 1974 until the 1987 election which returned all Liberals, this riding was considered a Tory stronghold, however it has been Liberal since.
