United Socialist Workers' Party (Brazil)

Brazil's United Socialist Workers' Party (in Portuguese, Partido Socialista dos Trabalhadores Unificado, or PSTU) was founded in 1994 after pre-foundation congresses in 1992 and 1993, uniting several Socialist and Communist organizations and independent activists, centered around the Convergência Socialista group which left the Workers' Party when its members concluded that that party no longer offered an opportunity to build towards a revolutionary transformation of Brazil.

Nowadays, the PSTU is Brazil's third largest leftist party, behind the PT and the PCdoB, although the newly-formed PSOL challenges that position. It contests national and local elections as well as being involved in social movements, particularly the labor movement and student movement. The PSTU publishes the weekly newspaper Opinião Socialista (Socialist Opinion) and is the main group contributing to the journal Marxism Alive /Marxismo Vivo.

Today the PSTU is officially committed to a Morenist variety of Trotskyism and is a member of the International Workers' League (Fourth International), a grouping of such organizations.
