List of Parliamentary constituencies in the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom House of Commons elected on 7 June 2001 contains 659 Members of Parliament (MPs). Each represents a single geographic area called a parliamentary constituency. The boundaries are subject to regular review by an independent Boundary Commission. Often some constituencies are abolished or created anew in the reviews. Current constituencies are listed immediately below; historic constituencies follow at the end of the article.
Constituencies were long based on boroughs and traditional counties, but are now unique divisions of ceremonial counties, consisting of several wards.
This list is of the constituencies currently represented in parliament. However, by virtue of the elimination of 13 Scottish seats, since February 2005 the number to be contested in the next UK general election is 646.
