Umbilicus rupestris

Umbilicus rupestris is a succulent flowering plant of the stonecrop family. It is the only species in the genus Umbilicus of the family Crassulaceae. It is commonly known as navelwort or pennywort, but these names are also used for unrelated plants.

The palid spikes of bell-shaped flowers of this plant first appear in May, and the green fruits ripen through the summer.

Both the scientific name, Umbilicus, and the common name, "navelwort", come from the shape of the leaves, which have a navel-like depression in the center. The flowers are bell-shaped, pale green, and droop from a long stem. The plant is found in south and west Europe, often growing on walls or in rock crevices that are shady and damp.
