Twenty-fourth dynasty of Egypt

History of Ancient Egypt, Twenty-fourth Dynasty

Name Dates
Tefnakhte 727 - 720 BC
Bakenrenef (Bocchoris) 720 - 715 BC

The Twenty-fourth was a short-lived dynasty with its capital at Sais in the western Nile Delta. Tefnakhte formed an alliance of the kinglets of the Delta, with whose support he attempted to conquer Upper Egypt; his campaign attracted the attention of the Nubian king Piye, who recorded his conquest and subjection of Tefnakhte and his peers in a well-known inscription.

This dynasty came to an end when Shabaka, a king of the Twenty-fifth dynasty and son of Piye, captured Bakenrenef and burned him alive.
