Turrón

Turrón (Spanish), torrone (Italian), or torró (Catalan), is a nougat confection, typically made of honey, sugar, and egg white, coated in crushed, toasted almonds, and usually shaped into either a rectangular tablet or a round cake.

Turrón appears to be of Arab origin; it is known definitely to have existed in the 16th century in the city that was then Sexona, later known by its Catalan name of Xixona, or the Spanish name of Jijona, in the province of Alacant/Alicante. Turrón is now common in many regions of Spain and Roussillon in France, but especially so along the Mediterranean coast: Roussillon, Catalonia, and Valčncia regions. Also, Bagnara, Italy, is known for it.

There are variations on the product, the classic ones being the preparations named after Alacant/Alicante, Xixona and Agramunt.
