Black family

The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black is a fictional family in the Harry Potter books.

This pureblood family was highly devoted to the Dark Arts, and produced many Dark Wizards. The Black family home is Grimmauld Place, which contains many artifacts of dubious origin; there is also a family tree, now highly incomplete. The reason for the incompleteness is that whenever the family produced anyone half-way decent, he or she was disowned. This is what happened to Andromeda Black, who married Ted Tonks, and Sirius Black.

Although living family members include Bellatrix Black Lestrange (escaped supporter of Voldemort), Narcissa Black Malfoy (mother of Draco and husband of Lucius), and Nymphadora Tonks (auror and member of the Order of the Phoenix), all of these survivors are female. The last surviving male member of the family, Sirius Black, died in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and thus the Black family line has ended.

The house-elf Kreacher was devoted to the Black family.
