The TAAS, or Texas Assessment of Academic Skills, was a primary education standardized test used in Texas until 1999, when it was replaced by the TAKS test. It was used from grades 3 to 11, at which point if the student passed he or she no longer needed to take the exam. A pass at the 11th grade level was required for graduation, but many opportunities for retesting (on different test versions) were available.
