Supersaurus

S. vivianae (Jensen, 1985)

Supersaurus was discovered in a Colorado rock formation in 1972. Supersaurus yielded only a few bones; the shoulder blade and a few neck vertebrae. The shoulder blade, itself, stood more than six feet tall, if placed on end, making it taller than most adult humans. Supersaurus may have been anywhere from 80 to 100 feet (24 to 30 m) long and up to 50 feet (15 m) tall at full stretch. Also found in the same formation was a larger animal, which was named Ultrasauros, but is now regarded to be the same species as Supersaurus.

Dr. J. Jensen named the animal in 1985, along with Ultrasauros.

Where: North America's Colorado
