Statilia Messalina was an Empress and third wife to Emperor Nero. The ancient sources say little of her family; however, Suetonius states that she was a great, great granddaughter of Taurus, a Roman General who won a truimph and was twice consul. Her first husband was a formal consul, whom Nero murdered, so Nero could marry her. Before their marriage, she was his mistress.
After Nero's death, Otho promised her to marry her, before his suicide in 69ad.
