Sprawl-Mart is the name of a fictional store in The Simpsons. It is obviously a Wal-Mart parody, given that the store is a lot like Wal-Mart. As well, Sprawl-Mart uses a star in its logo in place of the hyphen, just like Wal-Mart. The store sells regular staple items and also has a shoplifting department, to protect possible shoplifters (like Nelson Muntz). Also sold at Sprawl-Mart were Jaclyn Smith's line of axe heads.
Banners below the Sprawl-Mart sign (in one episode) read "We're Not a Parody of Wal-Mart", "Don't Watch 60 Minutes This Week", and "If You Were Poor, You'd Be Home by Now!" Ironically, in Springfield, Sprawl-Mart is located near the Costington's department store (which is next to the men's shelter.)
In the episode "The Fat and the Furriest", when Homer, Bart, and Lisa are finding a Mother's Day present for Marge, they see Grampa as the People Greeter at Sprawl-Mart. Homer buys the Kitchen Carnival at Sprawl-Mart, which he later uses for himself.
Sprawl-Mart returned in the episode "On A Clear Day I Can't See My Sister", where Homer sees Grampa, but when Grampa is put in a cart and run into gnomes, he wants Homer to become the new people greeter. Eventually, Homer does. The manager likes Homer's work and he makes Homer work overtime without being paid, a reference to the criticism of Wal-Mart for the low pay of its associates (employees), and without being allowed to leave the store. If Homer refused to work overtime, the manager threatened to move him to Mexico because he may have been an illegal immigrant. He then took out his obedience chip, with no brain damage (though there clearly was damage), and tried to rally other workers to shut the store down. However, they all learned to accept the things they can't change...and steal what isn't nailed down. With this chance for revenge, Homer used a forklift to take many plasma TVs, riding triumphantly into the night.
Sprawl-Mart is also a term used in criticism of Wal-Mart.
