Something Wall-Mart This Way Comes

Something Wall-Mart This Way Comes is the ninth episode from South Park's eighth season, which aired on November 3, 2004. The title (and some of the plot) comes from the short story Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury.

Stone & Parker may have been inspired by the issue of Bradbury, as the author of Fahrenheit 451, threatening with a copyright lawsuit against Michael Moore for the name of Moore's film Fahrenheit 9/11.

A Wall-Mart (a very obvious "parody" of Wal-Mart) opens in South Park. Everyone in town starts shopping there, since it is so much cheaper than the other stores. This forces some local businesses to shut down. The townspeople decide they no longer want the Wall-Mart in Sout Park and agree to boycott. The boycott fails, however, because many townspeople surrepticiously break the boycott in pursuit of good deals. The boys realize how evil the Wall-Mart is, and decide to destroy it. After their first attempt to burn it down, it rebuilds itself. They find out they need to destroy its heart. They eventually succeed.

As a coda, the local pharmacy becomes analagous to a "new" Wall-Mart, with the same growth and impact on the town. The episode ends with the townspeople burning down the formerly small local business.
