A snakebot is a type of biomorphic hyper-redundant robot that resembles a snake. Snakebots are ideally suited for automated pipe inspection, and search and rescue due to their thin bodies and flexibility. Another advantege of snakebots is their redundancy which allows them to still function after losing mobility in one or more sections.
Snakebots are currently being researched as a new type of robotic, interplanetary probe by engineers at NASA's Ames Research Center.
