The Smirking Chimp is an American political blog and message board website. Its name is intended as a derisive reference to George W. Bush, whose tendency to smirk in televised debates has been commented on in the media, most notably during the 2000 U.S. presidential election campaign. The Smirking Chimp's premise is that Bush's smirk resembles the facial expression of a chimpanzee, and the site features a split image matching up half of Bush's face on one side with that of a chimp on the other.
Naturally enough, the site has a strong Democratic orientation. In addition to directing criticism at Bush, it regularly targets other leading Republicans and the Republican Party in general.
