Sarkis Assadourian

Sarkis Assadourian (born January 25, 1948 in Aleppo , Syria) is a Armenian-Canadian politician from the Liberal Party of Canada.

He was a member of the Canadian House of Commons for Brampton Centre, a position he held from 1997 to 2004, and previous to that Don Valley North, a position he held from 1993 to 1997. He did not run in the 2004 election. He was the first Armenian-Canadian to be elected to the House of Commons.

Assadourian was parachuted into the Brampton-Centre riding after upsetting the Armenian community that served as his base in Don Valley North. At the time of his first election in Brampton, he did not reside or have property there. He was generally considered a Chretien loyalist, and chose not to run in the 2004 election after Paul Martin became Liberal Party leader. The Liberal Party candidate was instead Ruby Dhalla, also a parachuted candidate who did not reside in the riding.

Mr. Assadourian and his wife Zaza have four children.
