Sant Joan Despí (Catalan for Saint John of the Pine) is a city located in the Baix Llobregat area (Barcelona in Spain), concretely on the left bank of Llobregat river . It is surrounded by the cities of Sant Feliu de Llobregat , Sant Boi de Llobregat , Santa Coloma de Cervelló on one hand, and, on the other hand, by Sant Just Desvern, Esplugues de Llobregat, Cornellŕ de Llobregat , which along with Sant Joan Despí are a part of the Barcelona conurbation (on the Llobregat area in southern Barcelona, apart from the Besňs area, in northern Barcelona).
Currently, Sant Joan Despí has 31,000 inhabitants divided into 4 different neighbourhoods:
- Barri Centre: the first settlement of the town.
- Les Planes: a workers' neighbourhood which appeared during the 60's and 70's due to the immigration to Catalonia from other Spanish Regions.
- Torreblanca/Pla del Vent: a new neighbourhood.
- Polígon Residencial Sant Joan: commonly known as TV-3 because the central studios of Catalan Television Broadcaster are located there.
The town is communicated with Barcelona downtown through several buses, as well as the train (C4- RENFE) and railway (Trambaix)
