Salisbury station is one of the busiest stations in the Adelaide metropolitan area. Most trains stop at this station. Some trains also run non-stop to Adelaide from Salisbury and in the opposite direction to Gawler Central . It forms part of an interchange where passengers can also change for buses.
Salisbury station was the site of an accident that occurred in October 2002. Four people were killed when a train bound for Alice Springs (The Ghan) collided with a bus and a car on the Park Terrace level crossing adjacent to Salisbury station.
