When counting the top 25 markets in the nation, Salem claims to be the third-biggest broadcaster. When purchasing radio stations, the company focuses on acquiring outlets with powerful transmitters. This is the opposite of how many Christian broadcasters operate, where a common practice is to gobble up large numbers of low-power translators.
Salem has three main services: Christian teaching, contemporary Christian music, and a news/talk format (Salem Radio Network).
