Run

The word run can mean several things:

• Run has many dictionary definitions such as "moving swiftly by foot". See Running, and "Run" in Wiktionary.
• A run in a stream or river is a fairly smooth flowing segment or part of the flow differentiated from a pool where the water is deeper and slower moving, and a riffle where the flow is shallower and more turbulent.
• Run in computer programming terms means to execute a program. See List of computer programming terms.
• A run is the unit of scoring in the sport of cricket. See run (cricket).
• A run, in baseball, is the unit of scoring. See run (baseball).
• A bank run is a mass withdrawal of money from a bank.
• A run is a New Zealand term for a landholding corresponding to a ranch.
• A run is a small enclosure used for the exercise of (normally caged) domesticated rodents such as rabbits and guinea pigs. typically used on grass.
• Run was a computer magazine published in the 1980's. See Run magazine.
• Run is also the name of a 1991 action movie directed by Geoff Burrowes and starring Patrick Dempsey and Kelly Preston. See Run (movie).
• Run is the stage name of Joseph Simmons, a member of hip hop group Run-DMC.
• A run is a manuever in the video game Dance Dance Revolution (or Dancing Stage in Europe) that consists of making "1/8th steps" or steps with a base tempo of at least 200 beats per minute for longer than four 4/4 measures. An example is the long period of continuous steps at 256-bpm in the middle of the song SUPER STAR from Dance Dance Revolution Solo 2000.
  • A death run is a run that is faster than 333 beats per minute. An example is a 392-bpm run at the end of the song Healing Vision Angelic Mix from DDRMAX: Dance Dance Revolution 6thMIX.
• Run is a term used commonly in Role Playing Games to flee a battle, not gaining any experience. Run options are often limited (such as not being able to run from boss battles, faster enemies, and costing you money).
