Rory O'Donnell, 1st Earl of Tyrconnell (1575–1608)
- 1602 Rory O'Donnell succeeded his brother Hugh Roe O’Donnell, Lord of Tyrconnell, as the Irish chieftain of the clan O'Donnell, At the time his brother was rebelling against King James I.
- 1603 he went to London to submit to James I. He was knighted, created Earl of Tyrconnell (which meant that James recognised his position in Irish society) and made Sheriff of Donegal.
- 1607 With the discovery by the British Government of the conspirecy to seize Dublin Castle and to start a general uprising in which he was implicated along with Spain and others, he was forced to leave Ireland in the Flight of the Earls. He died in exile in Rome in 1608.
