Robin

The given name Robin was originally a diminutive of Robert, derived from Rob and the diminutive Old French suffix -in. It is nowadays used as an independent name. The alternative spelling Robyn is sometimes used. Although in England it is generally regarded as a boy's name, it is sometimes given to girls. In the U.S., it is more popular as a girl's name than as a boy's name -- during the 1990s, for example, it was the 393rd most popular girl's name and the 709th most popular boy's name.
