Preromanesque
- This is the art and the artists inmediatly previous at Romanesque art.
- It is represented by the Spanish Preromanesque in Asturias, Spain; the Merovingian and Carolingian art in France (Saint Joan of Poitiers ); in Italy (sepulchre of Theodoric, Ravenna); in germanic contries with othonic art (Saint Michael of Hildesheim ).
- There are two stages in Spanish Preromanesque: the first stage is the visigothic art (San Juan de Baños , Palencia) and the second is represented by the Asturian art (San Miguel de Lillo , Oviedo and Santa María del Naranco , Oviedo) and the Mozarabic art (San Miguel de la Escalada , Palencia).
