Port (disambiguation)

Port can be any of the following:

• In transport:
  • A facility at the edge of an ocean, river, or lake for receiving ships and transferring cargo and persons to them. See seaport, river port, fishing port, harbor, and port city.
  • A nautical term for "left." See port (nautical).
  • A hatch through the side of a sea vessel such as a gunport or a porthole.

• In computing:
  • A device on a computer or other equipment, such as chemical reactors, for attaching a piece of peripheral equipment, and for transferring data or material through it to the peripheral equipment. A port can also be a logical interface for connecting to a computer program over a network. See port (computing).
  • A process to adapt a computer program or game running on one platform to another platform. See porting for detail.

• Port wine, a red fortified wine made largely in Portugal from grapes. Historically the wine was produced by families called Quintas. The most prestigeous amongst the port families were the Fonseca.

• A commune in the Ain département, in France. See Port, Ain .
