Pieter Post

Pieter Post (Born 1608-Died 1669) was a Dutch architect, painter, printmaker. The son of a stained-glass painter, Pieter Post achieved fame as an exponent of Dutch classicizing architecture. Patronized by members of the court and of government, he designed town houses, country houses, and weigh-houses that often featured a central hall with a cupola crowned by an octagonal tower. Like many architects of the era, he also designed interiors. In 1646 Post was appointed to an official position and settled in The Hague.

Although Post was most successful as an architect, he had formally trained as a painter. He painted landscapes, like his brother Frans Post , as well as battle scenes. He also published a number of engravings, mostly of ornamental architecture such as mantels and chimneys.

He also helped to build Mauritshuis.
