Pechers'k district of Kyiv

Pechers'k or Pechersk (Ukrainian: Печерськ) is a district of Ukrainian capital Kyiv, located on the hills adjoining the right bank of the Dnieper. It is the most important cultural center of the city, particularly home to the legendary Kiev Pecherski monastery (hence the name). Dozens of other historical and architectural monuments situated here.

Since 1930s, Pechers'k is also a political center of the city (and of Ukraine as a whole): the houses of Verkhovna Rada and Ukrainian SSR cabinet (now the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine) were built here. Many administrative and educational facilities situated in the district. There are also few picturesque parks. Lobanovs'kyi Dynamo Stadium , the home ground of the FC Dynamo Kyiv, is also situated in Pechers'k.

After the declaration of Ukrainian independence in 1991, Pechers'k retained and developed its role, also becoming a luxury residential area with increased security. Few large industrial companies located in the district are considered to be moved elsewhere.

One should note that "Pechers'k" generically refers to the number of smaller and more distinct (but not official) historical districts of Kyiv, included in the administrative Pechers'kyi raion (sometimes mentioned as "district"). E.g., the premises of Verkhovna Rada and President are exactly in the Lypky historical district, associated with the Instytuts'ka and Hrushevs'koho Streets. Moreover, that raion includes few areas traditionally associated with other historical districts of the city.
