Parti National Populaire

Parti national populaire was a provincial political party in Québec, Canada from 1975 to 1979.

The Parti national populaire (PNP) was founded by two Members of the Quebec National Assembly, Fabien Roy and Jérôme Choquette, on December 14, 1975. Choquette was named leader of the new party.

Choquette had quit his post as Minister of Education for Quebec and quit the Liberal Party of Quebec on September 26, 1975.

Fabien Roy had been expelled from the Ralliement créditiste du Québec on November 3, 1975.

In the November 15, 1976 Quebec election, only one PNP candidate was elected (Fabien Roy in Beauce-Sud). Despite winning election as a Liberal in 1966, 1970 and 1973, Choquette placed third in his riding with only 14.2% of the vote, after the Liberal Party of Quebec and Parti Québécois candidates.

On April 5, 1979, Fabien Roy resigned from the National Assembly following his nomination as interim leader of the federal Social Credit party. This presumably marks the end of the PNP.
