Arizona Outlaws

(Redirected from Oklahoma Outlaws)
Arizona Outlaws

The Arizona Outlaws were a professional American football team that played in the United States Football League in the mid 1980s.

The Outlaws began their history in San Diego as a franchise awarded to William Tatham, though the team never played a game there. The team was unable to acquire access to San Diego's Jack Murphy Stadium for its games, and summarily relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma for its inaugural 1984 season as the Oklahoma Outlaws.

Following a 1984 season which saw significant financial losses, Tatham merged the club with the Arizona Wranglers for the 1985 season, creating the Arizona Outlaws. The team played in the USFL's 1985 season, and planned to continue play in the league's first fall season in 1986, but the league ceased operations following its phyrric victory in an anti-trust lawsuit against the older National Football League.
