Oki Islands

Oki (隠岐) is the name of a group of islands (隠岐諸島 Oki rettō) in the Sea of Japan, 40 to 80 km from the coast of Honshu. They are part of Shimane Prefecture, Japan. Prior to the establishment of the prefectures, they comprised Oki Province. Present-day Oki District encompasses these islands.

The islands include Okinoshima, Nakanoshima, Nishinoshima, and Chiburijima.

Oki Airport (OKI), a Class III facility with a 1500 m runway, is in Saigō, the most populous town on these islands. It provides air service to Osaka International Airport ("Itami", ITM) and Izumo Airport (IZO).

On October 1, 2004, Saigo and the villages of Fuse, Goka and Tsuma were administratively merged into the town of Okinoshima.

Emperors Go-Toba and Go-Daigo were exiled to Oki.
