Obolon, or Obolon' (Оболонь in cyrillic) is a historical district of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv (see Obolon' (Kyiv) ).
A new Kiev resedential district was build in 1970-s on Obolon sands. It were mainly 9-stories apartment buildings. Probably because of the sands there is not as much trees in Obolon as in other parts of Kiev (you know, Kiev is considered a very green city). During first building wave apartments that the Soviet State was giving to kievans (registered in a special queue for getting a place to live in) were considered not very prestigeous.
But in a second building wave of recent years (2000-2005) new comfotrable apartment buidings are being constructed in Obolon closer to the waters of Dniper river. Apartments there are pretty expensive, although not as much as in the center of the city.
Go for a walk at the Dniper river bank at the Obolon and you will feel that special feeling of being out of city -- although the riverbank is lined with apartment buidings.
To the lovers of the nature there is two attractions on Obolon - a Yachting club for both kids and adults and a nudist beach.
Obolon may also refer to:
- Obolon CJSC - the largest Ukrainian brewing company (based in the above-mentioned district) and/or its brand name (Obolon in Roman alphabet)
- FC Obolon Kyiv - the Ukrainian soccer club based in Kyiv and sponsored by Obolon CJSC. Several less important soccer clubs also sponsored by that company have "Obolon" in their names too.
