Nicola Davies

Nicola Davies (born August 21, 1973) is a British Liberal Democrat politician.

She contested the seat of Birmingham, Edgbaston in the 2001 General Election, and in the 2004 European Elections was fifth on the party's list for the West Midlands region.

Shortly after this latter contest, she was selected to contest the Birmingham Hodge Hill by-election caused by the resignation of Terry Davis. She came second to Liam Byrne from the Labour Party, being beaten by 460 votes.

Nicola Davies read Politics at University of Wales Swansea. She currently works as a Community Affairs Officer for the Mobile Phone Operators Association. She has previously been a Parliamentary Researcher for Richard Livsey and Lembit Öpik, a teacher and a Local Government employee.

Ms Davies' opponents sought to make an issue of her occupation, which concerns securing permission for mobile phone mast sites. Labour Party officials and publicity have dubbed her Nokia Davis after the mobile phone brand to attempt to draw attention to her occupation. Such sites are often opposed by local residents in the UK, with local Liberal Democrats often spearheading the opposition.
