Muko, Kyoto

Mukō (向日市; -shi) is a city located in Kyoto, Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 53,518 and the density of 6,977.57 persons per km². The total area is 7.67 km².

The city was founded on October 1, 1972. Its neighbor cities are Kyoto and Nagaokakyo.

At the end of 8th Century Emperor Kammu of Japan located his capital from Nara to Nagaoka. It included largily Muko today and its southern end covered Nagaokakyo today. Emperor Kammu put his palace where in Muko today. The modern research found the site of former palace. Suffered moisted temperature and disease Temmu reloaced his capital from Nagaoka to Heian in 794, the latter is known as Kyoto today.
