Model village

Model villages were a classification of social/industrial developments that were created in the UK during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. They were created by philanthropist developers such as Titus Salt and George Cadbury to house their workers as well as provide social amenities for their families.

Famous model villages include Ackroyden , Bournville, New Earswick, New Lanark, Portlaw , Port Sunlight and Saltaire.

The term model village can also refer to miniature villages created as tourist attractions, such as that at Godshill .
