Massey University is based in Palmerston North, New Zealand with additional campuses in Te Aro, Wellington (inherited by absorbing the former Wellington Polytechnic) and in Albany, to the north of Auckland. The University offers most of its degrees extramurally nationwide and internationally. It is one of the largest educational institutions in New Zealand, but also conducts classes in China.

Founded in 1927 as Massey University Agricultural College, the sixth constituent college of the University of New Zealand, it became independent upon that University's demise in 1961.

Its science, design, agriculture, education and business degrees are well regarded. It is the only New Zealand university that offers degrees in aviation, in dispute resolution and in veterinary medicine.

Massey takes its name from William Massey, a former New Zealand Prime Minister.

Massey University is well known for its excessive spending on segways for 'security' purposes.
