Louise Lehzen

Louise Lehzen (17841870) was a German baroness. She became governess to, and later adviser and companion to Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.

Louise Lehzen was a native of Coburg in Germany. She came to England as the governess of Princess Feodora of Leiningen , the daughter of the Duchess of Kent by her first marriage. In 1827, she was made a Baroness of Hanover by King William IV. She became a teacher to Princess Victoria in 1824, and continued to teach Victoria even after the Duchess of Northumberland was formally appointed Governess. She became Private Secretary to Princess Victoria and then Queen Victoria until 1842 when she left the court to return to Germany. She died in 1870.
