Tenerife North - Los Rodeos Airport (TFN/GCXO) is one of two airports on the island of Tenerife, the other being Reina Sofía Airport, which is 100 km away. The airport is served by Iberia, Air Europa, and Spanair, all of which perform regional flights.
Los Rodeos has the dubious honor of being the site of the deadliest aircraft disaster in history until the September 11, 2001 attacks, known as the Tenerife disaster, which took place on March 27, 1977.
A recent plan to expand this airport has led to protests by inhabitants of the nearby villages of San Lázaro y Camino de la Villa.1
