Lauric acid, also known as n-dodecanoic acid, is a fatty acid with structural formula CH3(CH2)10COOH . It is the main acid in coconut oil and palm kernel oil, as well as genetically engineered laurate canola. It is colorless, has a melting point is 44 degrees Celsius, a boiling point of 225°C, and a molecular mass of 200.32 u.
Lauric acid is believed to have antimicrobial properties.
