Laughlin is a census-designated place located in Clark County, Nevada. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 7,076. Laughlin is located on the Colorado River 94 miles (152.3 km) south of Las Vegas. Directly across the River from Laughlin is Bullhead City, Arizona.
After Las Vegas and Reno, Laughlin is the third most visited casino and resort destination in Nevada. The town is named for founder Don Laughlin , a Minnesota native who owns the Riverside Resort and Casino.
Geography
Laughlin is located at 35°8'30" North, 114°37'7" West (35.141554, -114.618512).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 231.8 km² (89.5 mi²). 228.2 km² (88.1 mi²) of it is land and 3.6 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.55% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 7,076 people, 3,177 households, and 1,995 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 31.0/km² (80.3/mi²). There are 4,127 housing units at an average density of 18.1/km² (46.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 89.06% White, 2.81% African American, 0.62% Native American, 2.29% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 2.74% from other races, and 2.29% from two or more races. 10.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,177 households out of which 19.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.7% are married couples living together, 10.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.2% are non-families. 26.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.61.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 18.3% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 33.6% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 46 years. For every 100 females there are 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.0 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $36,885, and the median income for a family is $40,104. Males have a median income of $27,854 versus $20,973 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $21,097. 9.6% of the population and 7.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.7% of those under the age of 18 and 1.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
