Lakmé (1883) is an opera in three acts by Leo Delibes, with libretto by Edmond Gondinet and Philippe Gille based on the novel Le Mariage de Loti by Pierre Loti. It is about a girl named Lakmé who lives in India with her father. She falls in love with a British man who in military service in India and consequently gets in trouble with her father.
The most famous music from the opera is the "Flower Duet." which was heard by millions when it was used in an airline commercial. The opera also contains the famous aria known as the "Bell Song."
