Labiovelar

A labiovelar sound is one produced with the lips and velum simultaneously. An example is English w in word (IPA ). It may be characterized as a labial glide with an /h/ colouring. Its voiceless counterpart, IPA /ʍ/, is found in some regional pronunciations of English, especially in Scotland, England (for some speakers) and the American Midwest, so that witch (/wɪtʃ/) and which (/ʍɪtʃ/) are not homonyms.
