LAKAS is the ruling political party of the Philippines. Its full name is the LAKAS Christian-Muslim Democrats (LAKAS-CMD) and was formerly known as LAKAS National Union of Christian Democrats– United Muslim Democrats of the Philippines (LAKAS-NUCD-UMDP). It was formed for the 1992 Presidential elections as then General Fidel V. Ramos and Cebu Goverenor Emilio R. Osmena running for President and Vice President respectively. The current President of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is a member of the party as well as former president Fidel V. Ramos. It holds 86 seats of the 215 in the House of Representatives.
