Kirkby Stephen is a small market town in Cumbria, in the traditional county of Westmorland, England. It is located on the A685 at grid reference NY-774-085 in the north of the area known as Mallerstang . The River Eden passes East of the town centre.
The town is notable for the large parish church, known locally as the "Cathedral of the Dales", which contains a relief of the Norse god Loki who is shown bound and chained.
The town holds weekly markets and the there are a number of antique shops located in the town, which also serves as a base for walking tours of the Dales.
