Józef Ignacy Kraszewski (1812-1887) was a Polish writer and novelist.

A prolific writer, Kraszewski (Krah-SHEFF-ski) produced more than two hundred novels. He is best known for his epic series on the history of Poland, comprising twenty-three novels in seventy-nine parts. The first book in the series, Stara Baśń (An Ancient Tale) (1876) was recently made into a movie by Jerzy Hoffman.

As a novelist on Polish history, Kraszewski is generally regarded as second only to Henryk Sienkiewicz.
