Icehouse is an Australian rock & roll band. Originally formed in 1977 as Flowers by lead singer Iva Davies (a classically trained musician) and bass player, Keith Welsh.
After being formed as Flowers, Icehouse released their first album (Icehouse), which became a hit in their native Australia. The single from this album, also called Icehouse created some interest in the U.K., partly due to a memorable video.
Their next album release was Primitive Man , recorded with assistance from Keith Forsey , who later worked with Simple Minds. This album spawned the international hit single Hey Little Girl, which has remained their most regularly played single. Other strong tracks from this album were Great Southern Land, which featured in the early 1990s film Young Einstein, starring and written by Australian comic actor Yahoo Serious.
The third album was far more sombre and reflective, featuring the tracks I Don't Believe Anymore and Someone Like You. After this album the band made further inroads into the U.S. market with Measure for Measure.
The next album, Man of Colours, must be their biggest selling internationally. It contained the hit singles Crazy' and Electric Blue (a song co-written by John Oates from the band Hall and Oates). After this album, the band seemed to reach an international zenith, and never surpassed this level of popularity and exposure again.
In 2003 Iva Davies contributed to the score of the blockbuster film Master and Commander, starring Russell Crowe.
