Highlife is a type of music that originated in Ghana near the end of the 19th century and spread to other West African English-speaking countries. It is characterized by jazzy horns and multiple guitars which lead the band. Recently, it has acquired an uptempo, synth-driven sound (cf. Daddy Lumba ).
