Hendaye is the most southwesterly city in France, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques département, on the Atlantic coast and at the border with Irún, Spain. The town is a popular seaside tourist resort in the traditional province, Lapurdi, of the French Basque Country.
Sights
The town square is the location of the famous 17th century "Great Cross of Hendaye ", a stone cross carved with alchemical symbols and said to contain encrypted information on a future global catastrophe.
Transportation
The town is an important railway junction, as Spain's mainline trains use a different gauge from the rest of Europe.
