Heart of a Dog is short story by the Russian novelist and playright, Mikhail Bulgakov. It is often regarded as the Russian equivalent of Frankenstein. The story features a Professor, who implants human testicles and pituitary gland into that of a dog named Sharik. Sharik then proceeds to become more and more human as time passes, resulting in all manner of chaos.
The story can be read as a critical satire of the Soviet Union in Bulgakov's time.
